One of our lovely patients, Eoin Brogan (11 years) from Donegal, recently came to clinic with his parents. They presented a very generous donation to Prof. Monavari for the National Centre for Inherited Metabolic Disorders. Eoin’s sister, Kellyann, is a chef and works in the Redcastle Oceanfront Hotel and Spa. Kellyann was keen to raise money for the hospital where her brother is a regular attendee. Fundraising as part of the Great Irish Bake campaign was not possible to do in the traditional way this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, Kellyann came up with a novel solution. She advertised through social media and offered to make batches of cupcakes in return for donations to the fund. People could donate and then collect their cupcakes from her home, observing social distance and using safety precautions. Kellyann and Eoin made a whopping 750 cupcakes in their home kitchen over a number of days! What a remarkable feat in a domestic oven. We are very grateful to Eoin and Kellyann, and their parents, for their very generous donation to our service.
